Champs Bukit Jalil Wins RM15k

CHERAS: Bukit Jalil Sports School men's team won RM15,000 in the Malaysian Volleyball League grand final at Cheras Badminton Stadium yesterday.
They defeated Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in a 5-set thriller which ended 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 22- 25 and 16-14. It was the climax of a three leg preliminary stage in Batu Pahat, Penang and Mentakab with the top two teams meeting in the grand finals.
And to put icing on the cake, Mohd Aizzat Zokri was named Best Server and Most Valuable Player.
Teammate Lim Leong Siang took the Best Setter award. BJSS head coach Zulyadi Zakaria said: "It was a gruelling match and could have gone either way.
"We lived up to our reputation as overall winners in the three preliminary stages. The prize money will be going to the welfare fund for the players."
In the women's category, EGlobex upset high-riding PDT Pahang in another thriller with a 24-26, 25-19, 25-27, 23-15 and 15-13 score.
PDT Pahang were leaders in the preliminary stages and had to succumb to their opponents whose imports from Thailand — Pornthip Santhrong and Suphap Phongthong — kept their best for last.
PDT's skipper Jocelyn Teoh said: "We lost critical points at crucial period and they are fitter as most of them are beach volleyball players who play all year round.
"They are further consolidated by two foreign players who were in top form."
E-Globex reaped RM9,500 as overall runners-up in the preliminary rounds and league champions.
