BJSS, MBSA And Selangor Undefeated In First-leg of League

PETALING JAYA: Defending champions Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS), Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA) and surprise package Selangor wrapped up the first-leg of the 2012 Malaysian Volleyball League (MVL) undefeated at the Stadium Tun Fatimah basketball hall in Bukit Serindit, Malacca, yesterday.

Fancied BJSS and MBSA are the two seeded teams in the competition while the young Selangor side, who emerged from the qualifiying rounds, have made heads turn by chalking up two consecutive wins.


They defeated Segamat VC 3-0 on the opening day and upstaged seasoned campaigners Armed Forces 25-11, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21 yesterday.

BJSS, fielding the core of their champion team from last year, had little difficulty beating a new-look UKM side 25-22, 25-16, 25-23. MBSA recorded their second win against Bomba Malaysia 25-20, 18-25, 25-21, 25-20.

In the women’s competition, defending champions E-Globex, powered by national player Beh Shun Ting, bounced back from their opening defeat to down Century Penang 25-13, 25-20, 25-23. E-Globex had lost 3-0 to City Ranger VC on Saturday. In another match, BJSS defeated Selangor 25-17, 25-17, 25-10.

Eight men’s and six women’s teams are competing in the premier volleyball league competition, which offers RM150,000 in prize money. The MVL is held over three legs — Malacca (May 26-27), Kluang, Johor (June 2-3) and Kuala Selangor (June 9-10). The semi-finals and finals are scheduled to be played at the MPSJ Stadium in Serdang on June 16-17.
